About Our Yarns
Designed for Working with the Hand
The quality of a woven, knitted or crocheted fabric begins with the yarn.
At Shuttles & Needles, we focus on yarns developed for working with the hand rather than the demands of industrial production. This allows us to choose yarns for softness, drape, elasticity and handle, while retaining the strength needed for weaving, knitting and crochet.
Our range includes cotton, linen, silk, wool and other natural fibres.
Every yarn is suitable for handweaving. Many are also used for knitting, crochet, hand embroidery and tatting.
TESTED IN PRACTICE
Many of our yarns are developed in collaboration with spinning mills and processing facilities.
Before a yarn is added to our range, we weave or knit it in the studio to understand how it behaves in practice. We look at the fabric it produces, how it feels in the hand and how it performs during the making.
Only after this process do we decide whether it belongs in our collection.

RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION
The yarns are processed in facilities that follow recognised environmental standards.
Most of the dyeing units we work with are Zero Liquid Discharge certified, ensuring that water and processing chemicals are recovered and reused rather than released into the environment. The dyes and auxiliaries used comply with OEKO-TEX requirements for harmful substances.
Several of the mills and processing facilities we work with also incorporate renewable energy into their operations.

PRACTICAL QUANTITIES
Most of our yarns are available in convenient mini-cones, allowing makers to purchase only the quantity required for a project. Selected yarns are also available in ball form.
This makes it possible to experiment with materials, build colour palettes and work on small projects without purchasing industrial-sized quantities.
OUR COLLECTION
Alongside our own yarns, we also stock selected yarns from trusted suppliers whose materials complement our practice.
In addition to individual makers, our yarns are also used by design studios, educational institutions and weaving organisations in India and abroad.
Our aim is simple: to offer yarns that are a pleasure to work with and produce fabrics worth spending time on.
